Help Defray the Cost of Devin's Recovery

This fundraiser is to help the Mariko and the Farrell family with the costs associated with Devin’s care and long recovery from a fractured C5 vertebrae. While Devin has good insurance through Mariko’s work as a nurse, so many expenses are not covered by insurance. The recovery process will be a long and arduous process that will continue to add to their bills.

 

Most of the people that are seeing this will know the longer story, so here is a summary:

 

On Saturday, May 28th, Devin was on a vacation with Mariko and the twins in Kona with his brother Colin's family (Soleil and Del), and their mom and dad (Diana and Charlie). Devin was playing in the pool with the boys, Del, and Colin, when he had an accident. It is unclear what happened. There does not seem to be an event. Colin and Charlie pulled him out of the pool and performed CPR while Soleil called 911.

 

He was rushed to Kona Community Hospital, where they identified the fracture of the C5 vertebrae and associated swelling. Devin was then life-flighted to The Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu. He had surgery to address the vertebrae's fracture and reduce the pressure on his spinal cord.

 

Devin has been conscious several times throughout this process and has been able to communicate with Mariko and his doctors and nurses through blinking and very slight nods of his head. Devin has another 2-4 weeks of recovery in Honolulu before being air-ambulanced back to the mainland. Which hospital he will be transferred to is unknown at this time.

 

Currently, the damage to his spinal cord is unknown. There are too many outcomes to speculate on. In a best-case scenario, his recovery time will be very extensive. At this point, there is not a lot that most of us can do for the Farrell family. This GoFundMe is both a call for donations and an outlet for the many who have asked to help. The costs are going to be exorbitant.
