Help Denise Live

Hi. My name is Helen Antonopoulos and I am starting this fundraiser to help my friend Denise Kardaris - aka Soula.

She is a single mother of 2 wonderful boys and she is dying of cancer.

The doctors have given her 18 months to live.

Her battle with cancer began 2 years ago when she was diagnosed with Cervical Adenocarcinoma. After 25 radiation sessions, 3 rounds of chemotherapy, and 3 surgeries the tumor shrunk and she dared to dream that she would watch her boys grow up. They were only 11 and 12 years old.

Unfortunately, her dreams and hopes came crashing down when she was told her cancer had returned - and with a vengeance. It is stage 4, it has metastasized to both her lungs and it's incurable.

It's an aggressive cancer. In November, her CT scan showed 7 tumors. In her January CT scan the tumors had increased in size and in number. She now has 21 cancerous tumors in both her lungs -11 tumors in her right lung and 10 in her left.

Although there is no cure for her type of cancer, she refuses to believe she has only months left to spend with her children. She is willing to do ANYTHING, go ANYWHERE, meet ANYONE that can help her live a little longer. Help her watch her children grow just a little more.

While doctors in Canada tell her there is no hope in prolonging her life, in the United States and other countries in the world there are treatments and clinical trials that show great potential. However, all this costs a lot of money.

Just for an evaluation of her case at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, she was asked for over $32,000 ( $23,642 US Dollars to be exact). This doesn't include any treatment whatsoever. It's just for an evaluation!

At Memorial Sloan Kettering in addition to being asked for thousands of dollars just for a consult she was told that if she qualified for a clinical trial, she would have to stay in New York for 6 months.

At Mayo Clinic, just for an appointment with a doctor, she was told she needs to put a MIN deposit of $9,500 CAD.

Denise has started alternative, non-conventional treatments here in Toronto - ie. Vitamin C IV drips, Mistletoe injections, and herbalistic therapies, in order to help boost her immune system and hopefully keep her tumors from growing until she can afford to get more effective treatments in other parts of the world. These alone are costing her over $3,000 a month which she won't be able to continue for much longer as there is only so much room in her credit cards and lines of credit.

Regardless of where she finds a suitable treatment, she needs financial help for medical expenses, treatments, travel, and lodging.
