Likely that anyone reading this either loves snakes or at least hates rats. Our friend and resident YouTube herpetologist, Desert Wolf Armory, has been struggling, and is currently living in a hotel because the rental home he was in fell apart under his feet. Derek has a one year old son, and his father, who served our country in Vietnam, died a few years back. Wanting to follow in his father's footsteps, Derek enlisted, but wasn't allowed to serve for medical reasons, despite his desire.
None of what I'm sharing here is a secret. One of the things that I value most about Derek is that his pride and ego are right-sized, and he shares openly with his audience about his REAL situation. He shares his honest experience and hope about the good, bad and ugly. He's currently struggling to get out of a place where many of us have been, or will wind up at some points in our life. He keeps it real with us in a way that never comes across as pitiful, and he is not a victim. In fact, I don't think I can imagine that he would ask for this help, himself.
I, as a long time viewer and new internet friend, issued a challenge in the comments section on a recent update from Derek. Derek has over 200k subscribers. He is currently working his tail off, living in a hotel, and still managing to publish content for us while he tries to scrape together enough money to buy his own home. The question I posed was this, "If each subscriber scraped underneath their car seats and sofa pillows and turned loose of a single dollar, Derek, his child and the beautiful reptiles that we all love would be out of that hotel and into a house."
I, for one, would love to share the experience of what can happen when a whole lot of people care just a little bit, and the positive impact that can have on someone's life.
