Help Derek Shike with medical expenses

Hi my name is Patty. I am Derek Shikes mom. On the evening of Saturday June 12th 2021. A momma's worst nightmare happened. I received a phone call from the kids dad about 15mins after I got home from work. I knew something was wrong. He never calls that late. I will never forget those words. Derek has been in a bad wreck and cant feel his legs. We are on way to hospital don't know anything else. The waiting was so hard. Not knowing if your son is dead or alive. That hour of waiting seemed like forever. I got the text from Ken his father saying he is hurt but alive. Thank the lord. With in a couple hours of the accident I got the news Derek had two factures in his spine. He was rushed to OHSU in Portland Or. Now the waiting game began. Sunday morning around 5:00am my phone rang with a Portland number it was a nurse in the recovery room told me he had his first surgery and was heading in for second surgery on his back. Which would take 5 hours. And that Derek wanted to talk to his mom. The joy my heart felt when I heard his voice. I told him mom will be there soon. In return he said mom please be safe I need you. 6 hour had gone by I received the call from the surgeon. He said surgery went well Derek has 2 foot long rods on both sides of his spine with pins holding them. Derek spine was snapped in half putting pressure on the nerves and did some damage to them. Then come the news that Derek will never walk again. My heart sunk. My poor baby.

Derek spent 2 1/2 days in ICU then they transferred him to his own room. Derek has been on a lot of pain meds and in a lot of pain. They will be transferring him to rehab this weekend.

Derek has a long road a head of him. He could use all the help he could get whether it is an inspiring word, cards, visitors, or financial. Derek is a strong man. He is better at being strong for others not himself.
