Help Desi Brown recover from illness and surgery

Hi, I am Dajana (DJ), Desi Brown’s sister. I have set up this GoFundMe page to help ensure Desi’s ability to make it through a recent terrifying and unexpected life-threatening illness/surgery involving necrotizing fasciitis (a rare flesh eating disease).

You may know Desi from his 22+ years as a founding member and coordinator of Tuesday Night Swing Dancing in Albuquerque, as a past instructor, grad student and program manager of the Peace Studies Program at the University of New Mexico, or as an accomplished nationally known road/track bicycle racer a few decades ago.

He also is an avid hiker, supporter of social justice causes, drinker of good coffee and the guy you could call day or night to lend a helping hand. Desi currently owns his own one man construction company doing projects for his friends in Albuquerque while being fully engaged in the remodeling of a 100+ year old small apartment complex.

Sadly, Desi was admitted to the hospital on Jan. 22 with a severe case of necrotizing fasciitis (a rare flesh-eating disease) and had to have emergency surgery which resulted in the need for extensive hospitalization (likely 2-3+ months), a need for flesh and skin graft surgeries after that period and a likely 6-8 month rehab and recovery period after that where he won’t be able to work. He was recently transferred to a rehab hospital and feels lucky to have survived the past several weeks.

Desi will not have any source of income for a considerable amount of time during his hospitalization and extended recovery. This is why we have created this page, so that any donations received can be used to help cover basic needs until he can literally get back on his feet again.

Any and all help given will be greatly appreciated by Desi and he absolutely plans to continue giving back to his community in every way possible as soon as he is able to.
