Hello!
Family, Friends, & Collegiate Basketball Community! My name is Ishmael (Ish) Leggett, current Pitt Panther, URI Men’s Basketball, St. John’s College High School student athlete. I, my sister Jalyn & my brother Stephan came to everyone from our hearts. We thank you for your ongoing generosity for the care of our Dad’s day-to-day needs.
On December 20th my dad was driving me to varsity basketball practice on a busy highway and he suddenly went unconscious and we crashed. At 44 my dad suffered a massive stroke which left him Paralyzed and unable to Speak. It’s a miracle my dad survived 3 brain surgeries during his 6 months in the hospital. My dad never gained the ability to Walk or Speak again. Now it’s so hard for him to live day-to-day after being diagnosed with Severe Expressive Aphasia and continues to beat all odds. Less than 10% of people that had a hemorrhagic stroke, will never fully recover. Can you imagine knowing what you wanted to say, but it won’t come out? He’s unable to use his speech to communicate for his basic daily needs and wants.
We raised enough money to purchase Detrick a customized Tobii Dynavox Speaking Device to help him communicate again. iPad-based and pre-installed with AAC (augmentative and alternative communication) suite Apps. Tobii Dynavox Speaking Device is durable with a fitted case to withstand drops, complete with crash corners and a screen-protecting frame. Take A Look!
My dad is the strongest man I know and our biggest role model. His donated wheelchair is no longer working & we want to surprise him with a Heavy Duty Power Wheelchair. My mom is able to transport him safely to a local games to see me play because of your continued generosity.
Thank you,
