Help Devin and His Daughter Rebuild After Hurricane Helene

For anyone that is looking to donate to someone directly who lost their home

This is Devin.

He is a hardworking arborist, a musician and a father to one of the most magical and emotionally aware little girls you will ever meet.

Last Friday their home was destroyed by Hurricane Helene.

Almost all of their personal belongings have been covered in toxic mud and human waste as the flash flood entire swept homes, vehicles and oil tanks into the river above them. In addition, the tiny house that Devin was fixing up was smashed into a hundred pieces leaving only a few bits of metal frame behind. Devin’s tool shed with both arborist equipment and tools to build a house, tumbled down the river, washing away many and destroying any that remained.

Nothing is salvageable.

His home and all that remains of it will have to be crunched up with an excavator and disposed of. His land is full of 15 foot trash & debris piles from the homes, diesel & oil drums that washed into the floodwaters upstream.

Devin had asked that we not reach out to my community here until the emergency situation had calmed and everyone’s immediate needs for food, water and medical help had been attended to. He has been working night and day to assist those efforts and as the urgency passes we are coming to terms with the scope of his loss.

Sadly this is not Devin’s first flood. Born in New Orleans, he moved to the “safe hills” of North Carolina after loosing his home to Hurricane Katrina at age 16.

Aside from the financial loss of his property, all of this will cost money to properly remove and clean the riverside so that it does not further pollute the waters.

We are so grateful for any support you can give to help him recover and remediate the land from this tragic situation.
