Devin is a daughter, sister, friend, and the life of the party!
At just 26 years old, she has been diagnosed with Low Grade Serous Ovarian Cancer – a rare form of ovarian cancer. On October 14th, she went to the emergency room after experiencing severe abdominal bloating and stomach pains.
On October 15th around 9:30am, I got a call from her saying that she has cancer. The next day on October 16th, she underwent a procedure to remove both of her ovaries and the masses found on them. Two tumors - one being over 7 inches long and the other almost 5 inches long were removed during the procedure. It was a very successful surgery in which the doctor successfully removed the tumors. She had to stay a full week in the hospital hooked up to an IV to recover from her surgery. After a very long seven days she was able to go home, but unfortunately, her surgical procedures were not enough to remove the cancer.
The doctor found that the tumors on her ovaries are called “borderline tumors”. The pathology report determined that these tumors had no evidence of invasive carcinoma – meaning no cancer! However, there were two smaller tumors that were also removed. The pathology report determined these two smaller tumors to be low grade serous carcinomas – cancer. This form of cancer is rare in that it is slow growing.
Today, November 18th, 2019 she was told that the cancer she is living with does not often respond or react to chemotherapy. Her treatment options would be chemotherapy or an option of undergoing hormone therapy. We are still waiting to hear from her doctors what will be the best treatment path.
Even though she's in the comfort of her home now, recovery and treatment will be a lifelong process. Donations will go towards offsetting the hospital stay and procedures, as well as her future doctor visits.
Any contribution is greatly appreciated. Join Devin in the fight to beat cancer!
