Since college God has taken me so many different places. I was blessed to work at an amazing Church in Missouri, coach basketball, I moved to East Asia to work in gyms, and now I am back in my hometown (Sandusky, OH) with an amazing new opportunity. Since being back, I have wondered what God has next for me.
I have the honor of working with a Christian non-profit in the area to reach kids in Sandusky (part time) and I get to serve on the leadership team at my church (this is volunteer). I also have been working as a CrossFit coach at CrossFit Sandusky (this is similar to what I did in Asia).
A constant thought that would come across my mind was, what should I do next or, “why aren’t you doing what you were doing in Asia?” Then it hit me, WHY NOT? We all know the command to “Go and make disciples (Matthew 28:19).” I have a daily opportunity coaching to connect with people, and I get to spend time with kids day in and day out. The Lord, without me noticing, was setting up ministry right where I was. He was giving me a platform to make His Name known and I wasn’t using it. Then as I began to really focus in on relationships with people something crazy happened.
I was given an opportunity at CrossFit Sandusky, that has to be a divine appointment. The owner has offered to give me ownership of the gym. CrossFit Sandusky has been around since 2016, and, for the most part, is self-sustaining. There is a great core community here and I have the opportunity to build on that. The only thing slowing the process down is that I don’t have the capital to back myself up. Upfront, I will have to cover affiliation costs and insurance costs. I would also like to have a little money set aside at the start in case things don’t run super smoothly.
This is an opportunity for me to set up a home base here in the US, using the gifting and passions God has given me. If you have ever done CrossFit, you know that it is all about COMMUNITY. A strong belief we have and implement is that a person is not healthy unless their whole self is healthy: body, mind and spirit. The gym quickly becomes a place where all those areas are exercised, and you are living life on life with other people. We get to spur each other on towards a healthy lifestyle, and if you know me, you know I have passion for helping people. What better opportunity is out there for me to do something like this?
After talking with my lawyer and financial adviser, they believe that $5,000 would be the minimum needed to start.
