Help Dewayne DJ Jones Through His Cancer Journey

Thanksgiving, 2021

 

Hello Everyone,

 

After a year of increasing pain and misdiagnosis, Dewayne Jones--"DJ" to his family, friends & customers--decided to change doctors and get a second opinion. After several visits and tests, the news that nobody wants to hear was broken--He'd been diagnosed with Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer. Later he learned that the cancer had metastasized to the liver as well.

 

The Pancreas is an organ in the abdomen that lies behind the lower part of the stomach. The Pancreas releases enzymes that aid in digestion and produces hormones that help manage blood sugar. To further complicate issues for DJ, he is a diabetic, also. Pancreatic Cancer is seldom detected at its early stages because it often doesn't cause symptoms until after it has spread to other organs.

 

DJ is known to us as a Newspaper Carrier for the Athens Banner-Herald, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, USA Today and Barron's. He has worked his 3 routes for over 20 years--7 nights per week, in every weather condition & without a day off. Hard worker that he is--up until recently he also held a second job for multiple years at the McDonalds on Epps Bridge Parkway in Athens, GA. DJ is more than a dependable worker and accurate Newspaper Carrier, though--he is a Son, a Brother, a Partner and a Friend.

 

We, his fellow Newspaper Carriers and friends, are launching this fundraising campaign reaching out to his current newspaper customers (3 routes and over 300 customers) and beyond to the world-wide community through this GoFundMe page. All of the proceeds will go directly to DJ in an effort to alleviate the incredible financial burden of: Loss of income, Additional medical expenses, Maintaining quality of life, and to help him get moved back to Pennsylvania to be with his remaining family members.

p.s. When you go to donate, there is a line that reads "Your donation will benefit Greg Schultz"...of course this is not correct. I am just an organizer. DJ will get all of the proceeds.
