Help DFLocal Launch Free Sewing Classes

As stewards of the Earth, we are borrowing this planet from our children.

DFLocal seeks to enrich Texan culture through education on sustainability.

Hello everyone!

My name is Nathalie Wallace, founder and executive director of Down For Local SPC, otherwise known as DFLocal.

We are currently fundraising for FREE community sewing classes at our upcoming upcycle fashion show on Saturday, June 7th, at Deep Ellum Art Co. in Dallas, Texas. Classes will be held at Stitch House.

Everything at this show is created entirely out of secondhand materials to raise awareness about the overconsumption epidemic in the textile industry, which is having a profound impact on our planet. It takes 20,000 liters of water to produce just one pound of cotton, and 20% of wastewater worldwide comes from the fashion industry. We believe everyone should have access to learning how to sew—it's empowering to have control over your wardrobe and how you present yourself.

Our goal is to launch sewing classes across Texas—in Waco, Houston (where our previous fashion shows were held), and Dallas, where our upcoming fundraiser will take place.

With the right amount of funding, we’ll have the resources to host more and more students in these classes.

Each 6-week sewing course costs about $3,000 to produce and can accommodate 10 students. Participants will learn the fundamentals of hand sewing, sewing machines, and sergers, and will create an article of clothing using recycled materials—from start to finish.

Your donations will go directly toward teaching people skills that can help save our beautiful planet.

The $9,000 will be used to fund the classes, and the additional $1,000 will go toward operational costs.

DFLocal's team is completely volunteer-based, including our incredibly talented designers and musical performers.

These shows are deeply immersive in their creative expression.
