Help Dianne Walk Again

On Memorial Day weekend 2022 my mom, Dianne Boes, was involved in a horrific van accident in Ashland, Kentucky. The van hit a large pole on the passenger side, where my mom was sitting. The engine was pushed in and pinned my mother against the front seat of the van. The jaws of life were used to cut her out and she was life-flighted to the nearest trauma hospital. Her arm, pelvis, ankle, foot and toes were broken and the lower part of the femur was crushed.

At Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, West Virginia, she underwent an eight-hour surgery. She had two plates put in her arm and a large bracket with screws attached to her femur. The bracket was put in to stabilize the femur and to help the bone fragments grow.

But.....14 months after her first femur surgery she still could not walk and had extreme bone pain. On July 13th, 2023 my mom had her second femur surgery. A rod was inserted through the femur with the hope that new bone would start growing again.

During routine lab testing, before the second surgery, it was found that mom had an elevated calcium level in her blood, which lead to more testing that ultimately unveiled a previously undiagnosed parathyroid tumor.

What all this means for my mom is this. As long as the tumor is left to grow, there is a very good chance that it is inhibiting the healing of her femur. It is a complicated medical scenario but it is necessary to remove the tumor as soon as possible.

This is where everyone can help. The Norman Parathyroid Center in Tampa, Florida, has surgeons that are experts in this type of surgery and can get her in quickly to remove this tumor that may be delaying the healing of the femur. Unfortunately, my mom's insurance will not cover out-of-state surgeries. All things considered, this is where my mom feels her best chance of full recovery will take place.
