Help Dillon Walk: Fundraising for a New Prosthetic

Donation protected
Hello, I'm Katie, reaching out for help on behalf of a close friend. My best friend's family faces a significant medical expense beyond their means. I am creating this fundraiser in the hope that the community will be able and willing to offer support in any way they can.

On February 11th, 2021, Dillon(my best friend's son-in-law) experienced a tragic accident involving a firearm. Medical professionals attempted for two hours to save his leg, but unfortunately, the damage was too severe, resulting in amputation above the knee. Approximately six months later, Dillon received his initial prosthetic leg and initially managed well with it. However, as a 23-year-old working over 40 hours per week, he required a more robust prosthetic. The prosthetic he received did not meet expectations, being a basic model unsuitable for his active lifestyle. Furthermore, Dillon's prosthetic doctor lacked knowledge about his specific prosthetic, and attempts to address issues were fruitless.

Recently, Dillon sought the opinion of a new prosthetic doctor, who advised that his current prosthetic was ill-suited for his needs. The recommendation was for a prosthetic with a fully functional knee and ankle, which is crucial for his mobility. Dillon underwent the fitting process for this new prosthetic, believing his insurance would cover the majority of the cost, leaving him with a manageable $4000 expense. However, as of March 4th, Dillon learned that his insurance rescinded coverage, leaving him responsible for the $36,000 cost.

His insurance informed him that they would only cover two prosthetic legs throughout his lifetime, leaving Dillon in a difficult situation. The current prosthetic is cumbersome and inadequate, causing him pain and requiring excessive effort to operate. At only 23 years old, Dillon faces the prospect of funding future prosthetic legs independently, each costing tens of thousands of dollars. The most suitable prosthetic for him would be covered under a lifetime warranty, offering him the mobility and comfort he deserves.

Dillon and Brinley, youthful and energetic, are parents to three lively children. Their family includes a 5-year-old boy, followed by a spirited 3-year-old girl, and a baby boy who is less than a year old. As a close friend of the family, it hurts my heart to witness their young children eagerly request their father to engage in playful activities, only for him to be unable to do so.

Dillon, despite his struggles, never asks for assistance, yet it is the dream of those who care about him to alleviate his burden. With support, we aim to fulfill this dream, providing Dillon with the prosthetic that enables him to live his life to the fullest. Proof of expenses will be readily available for anyone interested in contributing to his cause.
