Help Dima to Run again!

Donation protected
During conflict in Syria, Dima, suffered a terrible injury that led to the loss of her leg; now in the UK, Dima has set her sights on a clear and definite dream: To Run Again.

In order to support Dima in achieving this, we are seeking funds to help with the purchase of a running prosthesis.

Below is Dima's story in her own words:

"I was an active girl. I participated in a running contest where I got second place, and then I went to another city where I dreamed of first place and managed to achieve second place again. Then the war started.

I could no longer go to cities to compete, all my dreams had come to nothing. Still, being a victim of war made my dream stronger and I refused to give up. I challenged myself to run about 1 hour from my house to the cemetery to visit my father.

Then one day everything changed. When I was 18 years old, on 13/09/2012, I was at home with my family when a series of bombs were dropped on my neighbourhood. The room I was in was hit, and sustained most of the damage... As a result of this attack and the bomb, I was left with a very serious injury that caused me to lose the lower half of my left leg.

When I was on the way to the hospital, I didn't care how much I was bleeding and I didn't care about my pain, I just wanted to know if my family were alive.

When I woke up from the operation I saw my mum who was crying, though when I saw her I felt comfort. Then the doctor came in and spoke with my mum near the door. I heard him say that my mum could buy me an artificial leg but he also laughed and said how expensive they were. At this time I realised the disappointment for me. I asked my mum what the doctor had told her, she said that I would be fine and that everything is good.

The doctor came back and said to me "I know you contributed to the running Olympics but now you know you cannot participate anymore". He explained in such a way that made my pain and reality seem much bigger than my dreams. Pity in the eyes of my family was killing that ambitious girl.

When I came to the UK I thought I will get a leg that will help me to retrain my dreams, stronger than before. Right now the leg that I have makes me feel a lot of pain and is not suitable for running. I would like to get a running prostheses; then perhaps I could attain my dream and start again.

I know the war took from me my leg and dream, but it gave me the hope that makes me stronger than before. Nothing is impossible."
