Help Disabled Single Father Veteran Turn Power On
Donation protected
My name is Bruce, and I’ve been completely let down by Central Maine Power. No matter how hard I try, I just cannot keep up with CMP’s insanely high rates. When I moved to Maine in 2014, my first utility bill was over $500. I flipped a gasket. I called and complained, “how in the holy hell can they charge me that much?” I have been battling for the last 9 years to get a monthly price so I can afford it… but I just can’t keep up as a single father and disabled veteran. On June 12, they shut off my power. I had to throw out all of my food and insulin. I owe over $13,000 to CMP. I tried to get LIHEAP, the energy assistance funding, but when I asked agencies like Health and Human Services for paperwork, I never get what LIHEAP is asking for. So, I am always denied. I also used to have a medical waiver, but they have expired. It is just wrong. The system does not care about people like me. It has failed people like me. I never would have imagined asking for help, but I just don’t know what else to do. My daughter, niece, and I need electricity to survive.
