Help Discover New Insect Species in North America
Tax deductible
Want to join in on finding insect species new to science?
Dr. Isaí Madriz is an independent researcher focusing on entomology (the study of insects). He has no institutional backing, but with the help of others he can contribute to the body of science related to insects and why they matter to the planet and humanity. It is essential that we know what is living amongst us and protect insects because without essential insects such as pollinators, we as a human race cannot survive.
Isaí will travel through the USA and Canada to discover and rediscover insects species, drawing upon knowledge of: other established scientists he meets, local people including indigenous groups that have knowledge of local flora and fauna, and school & community groups who engage in citizen science. This research is meant to be carried out over the next few years. Donated funds will cover mileage, small per diem, campsites/room rental, field supplies, and related items. This environmental discovery and education program is set to launch May 2024.
Isaí has extensive knowledge and experience in biological research through the Americas. As a "biking biologist" he spent two years biking from Chicago to the Southern Cone of South America and up to the edge of Brazil, working as a biologist/zoologist/marine biologist/entomologist. During this time he volunteered in exchange for room and board. Since then, he has engaged in projects in Patagonia, Chile, working with production companies to produce natural history documentaries about the wildlife of the area. He is continuing as volunteer Executive Director of the nonprofit, Hidden Wonders, and giving his time as the lead researcher. He also is a photography expert for National Geographic Travel and contributes to the National Geographic Latin America magazine.
