Help Dobi Run Free Again: Support His Surgery

Hi everyone! My name is Alisa, and I’m starting this fundraiser to help pay for a TPLO surgery for Dobi. TPLO stands for tibial plateau leveling osteotomy, which is treatment for tearing the CCL (cranial cruciate ligament) in a dog’s knee. Any contribution, big or small, would be greatly appreciated and would truly mean the world to me. The surgery will be scheduled for mid to late May.

If you know me, you know Dobi is my everything. I’ve always strived to give him the best life, take him on countless adventures, and treat him with all of the love and care he deserves. Dobi is a highly active dog, and one day I started to notice a slight limp. This got worse over time, and one day he slipped and fell while at the park. After several weeks of resting and recovering, things hadn’t gotten better, so I took him to our vet, who referred me to a surgical specialist because they felt instability in his knee. After seeing a specialist, we were informed that Dobi will in fact need surgery if he ever wants to return to his previous level of adventure, ball chasing, and frolicking with his friends. I can’t imagine not being able to throw a ball for him or let him run free at Douglas Family Preserve or our other usual adventure spots.

I’ve had pet insurance for Dobi since I got him as a puppy, but unfortunately, they have a limit of $2750 that they will pay for this specific procedure. Our first consultation and X-rays totaled $758. The quote I got from the first surgical vet we visited in Ventura was between $7600-7800, which felt crazy expensive. My sister informed me of a surgical practice in San Diego that she went to that would be more affordable. I reached out to them, and they quoted me at $4700 for the surgery, plus $90 for their consultation and $130 for pre-surgery bloodwork. I will also have to take time off of work to travel to San Diego for this procedure.

I work as a teacher, so while I would do anything for Dobi, I am in need of some support in paying for this treatment. After insurance, the estimated total for everything will be around $3000, which is my goal for this fundraising.

I love Dobi more than anything in this world, and any contribution, big or small, would mean so much to me. If you can’t contribute monetarily but can share our story, that would be appreciated as well.
