On August 17th Dominick underwent a nine-hour surgery that included a tumor resection, neck dissection, mandibulectomy and reconstruction to remove squamous cell carcinoma, followed by seven days in ICU. While the surgery was successful, he has a long recovery ahead, including speech/physical therapy and radiation treatment daily for six weeks. It will take some time to regain the full capability to swallow/speak. His doctors have deemed him unable to work for several months during treatment and recovery. The loss of income, medical costs, and travel to Gainesville for appointments/treatment has created financial stress on him and his family.
