Help Don Gibb Bring His Story to Science Fiction Fans

Hi, I’m Don Gibb. After decades being beholden to the craziness of the corporate world, I’m looking to make a full-time career change into my passion. Storytelling!

I’ve spent the last four years trying to get my debut novel, The Heroes of February 22nd, traditionally published. Discovering no publisher would touch an unknown author’s 140,000-word work, I had to split my single story into two parts and restart my quest. After doing so, I finally had a small traditional publisher offer a contract, but there were a couple of issues.

First, small publishers have limited staff and resources, so the bulk of marketing activities fall on my shoulders and out of my limited savings.

The second issue is the first half of my novel needs to be modestly successful, so its companion Volume 2 is picked up by my publisher. The success of Volume 1 depends on reaching and attracting readers.

My story is not complete and readers will be left hanging (from a cliff), if my second volume is not published. I don’t want to leave my readers hanging from cliffs.

The Heroes of February 22nd started with a question: If you were abducted by aliens, how would your life change?

The story revolves around 14-year-old Zach Davidson and his friends. Being abandoned by his father and raised by a single mother working three jobs to make ends meet weighs heavily on Zach's mind. Growing up a late-bloomer, black and bisexual in a small, Utah town provided additional struggles—until he got abducted by aliens. Then things got crazy.

Being nearly tapped out with the marketing promos I’ve already done, so I’m seeking help on GoFundMe with three much needed promotional/marketing activities.

I’m seeking to raise between *$1045 to $4669 in funds for three specific promotional and marketing activities to create reader interest and build a fanbase (in rank order of importance). *See the budget chart below

1. Run a Goodreads.com Book Give Away Contest.

2. Creating a novel promotional trailer (video).

3. Website redesign and search engine optimization.
