Help Donald Aloysius Wetzel Sr. get to DC
Donald Aloysius Wetzel Sr. is a proud and strong man with a very singular focus to restore the pride and strength to his father’s name. Walter “Blackie” Wetzel (Don's father) gave the former Washington Redskins the logo they used for over 5 decades. The logo has finally been retired and should be returned to the Wetzel Family. Don will repurpose this powerful symbol of Red Nation Unity to call attention to domestic abuse and the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Woman (MMIW).
Any funds received beyond his ongoing medical needs will be used to further fund his life mission. To form the “Blackie” Wetzel Warrior Society in order to empower American Indian women, mentor the youth, and share the true accurate accounting of American Indian history. To fulfill his Dad's dream of the 1st American Indian Nations March on DC! With 10,000 Tepees.
Don obtained an athletic scholarship that gave him the opportunity to leave the reservation and attend college. He was the first enrolled member of the 13 Tribes in Montana to play Division One College Basketball for 4 Years and graduate MVP for the University of Montana men's team 1972.
Competing has left him with a lower left leg amputation from the knee down. Broken backs and broken jaws with a few broken noses thrown in for good measure. He was a 4 sport athlete in High School, winning numerous State Titles in Montana. He then dedicated his life to the children for 25 Years as a teacher, coach, and administrator. He is still Beating the Drums for them.
Don is planning a trip to Washington DC on 11/13/2021 in order to meet peacefully with Dan Snyder the owner of the NFL team to have the logo returned. Here is the most recent article about his journey. https://406mtsports.com/406mtsports/final-mission-for-old-warrior-don-wetzel-bring-blackfeet-chief-logo-home-for-closure-and/article_8292d6c1-cb71-5c0d-a5e8-3c16885ef986.html
