Help to donate PPE for Health Care Facilities
Donation protected
Help the #SewBetterTogether Project donate 5000 reusable PPE for Healthcare professionals and patients in our community.
Hello Everyone. My name is Sarah Splinter and I am writing to you as both a family member and friend to multiple individuals currently fighting on the front lines of the Covid-19 pandemic. In a matter of weeks, everyday life as we know it has shifted into what seems like a parallel universe. Like many others, I found myself searching for a way to give back to the people in my life that were putting themselves at risk for the health and safety of others.
With the shortage of PPE in our communities, I recognized my experience in the fashion industry could be an opportunity to redirect efforts and produce free personal protective equipment to our front-line workers and patients in healthcare facilities. What began as a seedling of an idea, has blossomed into a beautiful network of volunteers and a generous stream of fabric donations. It is times like these we need to collectively pool our resources to make a larger impact.
United, we #SewBetterTogether.
Our mission is to help protect our healthcare workers, our New Mothers, our Families, and Children for a better tomorrow. The #SewBetterTogether team of volunteers produce and donate washable face masks with disposable filters, scrub caps, and gowns for Healthcare professionals and patients throughout our community.
We have built our PPE on a foundation of sustainability; designed to be reusable and created with donated fabric ends. The underlying goal is to treat our planet with the same level of respect as we have for the health of our bodies. Building on the personal connections in my life, our distribution efforts are focused on the health care professionals working in Labour & Delivery, Maternity, Paediatrics, and Nursing homes.
In a world where we are being told to keep our distance and self-isolate, it is easy to feel alone and apart. This initiative is bringing people together to build a new sense of community, purpose, and connection.
In one short week, the #SewBetterTogether project evolved into a team of 67 incredible people (and growing). Volunteers span across the GTA and Eastern Ontario, with some individuals helping their own communities as far as Calgary, Newfoundland, India, New Zealand, & Austria. This project would not be possible without the generous individuals and companies who have donated fabric and support to date. However, as our team continues to grow and demand for PPE increases, the incidental costs associated with distribution and production continue to rise.
With your help we can expand our production and scope to help provide a sense of security and smile to more front line workers that need it the most.
Donations to the campaign will be used to fund:
-Fueling all costs beyond donated materials to aid in the production and procurement of PPE
-Distribution costs to reach Health Care Facilities beyond the GTA
-Expanding our network and supply of donations to facilities that do not have government support for PPE
Thank you for your support and generosity.
Sarah Splinter
