Help Me Fight Back Against Foreclosure Abuse

My name is Donna Ferrato—photographer, artist, author, and lifelong advocate for justice.

Throughout my career, I’ve stood with women, people of color, the LGBTQIA+ community, and children, documenting abuse and fighting for those in need. Now, I am in an unexpected battle,

facing a legal challenge that threatens to take my home. I need your support to cover legal fees as I fight against one of the country’s largest banking institutions. Due to ongoing legal

proceedings, I cannot share specific names at this time to protect my case.

The Situation:

In 2022, the Foreclosure Abuse Prevention Act (FAPA) was passed in New York State to protect homeowners from predatory foreclosure practices. I am one of only four homeowners

referenced in this landmark legislation. Despite these protections, I am now facing the final stage of a relentless battle with a banking giant determined to take my home.

I am a single woman, mother, and grandmother, and I have lived in this house for over 25 years. My roots here run deep. It is more than just a house—it’s the place where I raised my child and

where my grandson was born. I am also a historian of my neighborhood, Tribeca, having published a book, *TriBeCa 9.11.01 – 9.11.11*, documenting the decade after the 9/11 attacks.

My home is not just my sanctuary—it represents my legacy, and I am determined to protect it.

The Battle:

In 2021, to stop the bank from auctioning my home, I was forced to file for bankruptcy, which provided temporary relief. However, the fight continues, draining me emotionally, physically, and

financially. Through all of this, I’ve held on to everything I have. My home represents safety, community, and family. I will not give it up without a fight.

I am now in the final stage of what feels like the mother of all battles; I need your help to cover the legal fees required to challenge this bank and protect my home. I am not
