Help Dr. bird Survive

Hey All, it’s Dr. bird.

Currently, I’m a visiting assistant professor, critical media ecologist (poet, activist, academic), and content creator who shares almost all their work for free because I strongly believe in there not being a barrier between the public and knowledge.

However, I cannot afford to live for the next two months because, despite the fact I’ll be working as I always do — at all these things, everyday — I will not get my first paycheck for Fall semester until the end of September since I switched to be paid from 9-months to 12-months and that delayed my first paycheck, so now I can’t pay rent or afford to live the entirety of September, despite everything I do.

I also just finished my first post-PhD book / memoir / manifesto a few days ago. Please read / share that if you can as well. Anything helps!

Thank you to everyone who has already sent me so much generous support the last couple months. I hate that I have to do this because of how terribly corporatized education exploits professors.

I will be teaching again at the end of the month because Fall semester starts, yet in an financial emergency for the next two months. In Ohio, I have been forcibly enrolled in 14% of my pay taken out every month against my will for a retirement account I do not desire. That means I live(d) off of $36,000 because $6,000 of my income, unbeknownst to me was taken and held hostage that I cannot access until this position is terminated. Therefore, if I do not receive support I will become houseless while doing so.
