Thank you for taking the time to read our story.
On February 17, 2023, Dr. Jean-Marc Komi Akakpo flew to Baltimore, MD to volunteer at a conference for Notre Dame Mission Volunteers, an AmeriCorps-affiliated non-profit organization. Tragically, on the evening of February 19, 2023, Jean-Marc suffered a sudden cardiac arrest and was rushed to St. Joseph Medical Center in Towson, MD. Since that day, he’s been in and out of hospitals and treatment centers, battling through like the soldier he is. His road to recovery remains long and challenging.
Jean-Marc is a devoted believer in Christ, whose roots trace back to Agbelouvé, Togo. He is a brother, father, cousin, friend, and colleague who has touched so many lives. He is also a dedicated Professor at Kennesaw State University, GA, known for his unwavering commitment to helping his students and giving back to his community. Over the years, he has made a profound impact through volunteering and his involvement with several organizations.

As each day passes, Jean-Marc's medical bills and expenses continue to grow. On top of this, his health insurance with AmeriCorps ended on April 30, 2023, adding another layer of uncertainty to an already overwhelming situation. He is now on Medicaid, which has decreased his level of care.
Jean-Marc is currently at Sterling Care Bethesda in Bethesda, Maryland.

We know the journey ahead will be long and challenging, but we remain hopeful and determined to provide Jean-Marc with the care and support he needs. Today we are reaching out again to friends, family, and compassionate souls, asking for your generosity to help ease the financial burden of his treatment and recovery. Every donation, no matter the size, will make a meaningful difference in his life.
