Thank you for taking the time to read our story.
On February 17, 2023, Dr. Jean-Marc Komi Akakpo flew to Baltimore, MD to attend a conference as a volunteer for Notre Dame Mission Volunteers, an AmeriCorps-affiliated non-profit organization.
While attending the conference on the evening of February 19, 2023, he had a cardiac arrest and was rushed to St Joseph Medical Center in Towson, MD. He remains on life support from that day until now. Doctors predict a lengthy hospital and rehabilitation process and we foresee a complicated road to recovery.
We are still in disbelief that this could be happening to a brother, father, cousin, friend, and co-worker who still has so much more to give and is loved by so many! Jean-Marc, a firm believer in Christ whose parents came from Agbelouvé (Togo), is a Professor at Kennesaw State University, GA and is passionate about what he loves doing: helping others and giving back to the community. He touched many people over the years with his contribution to volunteering programs as well as his involvement with numerous organizations.
His LinkedIn page provides more information about him and what he has achieved in his lifetime:
Each day that Jean-Marc remains on life support comes with increasing medical bills and expenses.
To make things worse, we have been informed that his current health insurance with AmeriCorps is scheduled to end next month, on April 30, 2023.
We understand this will be a long and difficult journey for Jean-Marc and for us. We are counting on any support or assistance that can help Jean-Marc’s rehabilitation process and provide the decent post-recovery life that he deserves.
So, we are reaching out to friends, family and kind-hearted acquaintances and asking for any financial donations that you can make now or as soon as you can. Every dollar counts, so anything you can give to help Jean-Marc's treatment and recovery will make a huge difference in his life.

Funds raised here will be used to cover medical bills and medical transport cost. They will go towards the daily medical assistance and needs that Jean-Marc receives and help bring him close to friends and family here in Georgia via medical transport in helicopter or plane. We want to plan and be ready for anything else that might come our way, things that we did not foresee.
We hope Jean-Marc's story has touched your heart. Please pray for him and share this GoFundMe page with friends, groups you belong to or someone who might help.
God bless you.
