In Memory of Dr. Barbara Ng

Barb Ng was a general internist practicing in Vancouver. Barbara herself used to be an architect until she fell in love with medicine. In early 2020, she was diagnosed with an aggressive leiomyosarcoma of the uterus. She had debulking surgery with a high output ileostomy and continued to fight bravely through her recurrence until she passed away on June 20, 2021. She leaves behind 2 children, a boy and girl, 6 and 8 years old, with her husband Eric.
Barbara was known for her kindness, humility and her thoughtful care of each of her patients. She was a dedicated physician, wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend. This cancer diagnosis happened suddenly, and the recurrence occurred even more unexpectedly a short time after. Throughout all this, Barbara remained optimistic, brave and grateful.
Barbara was a wonderful woman; very understated and so loved by those who were fortunate enough to cross her path. She made a life, career and legacy of looking after others. This fund was originally started to honor her contribution and help Barbara and her family deal with the unexpected expenses that came with the suddenness of this diagnosis. We use it now, as her community, to support her family in the smallest of ways, to traverse this difficult time.
We never expect this to happen so young . We feel this tragedy, for those of us with a shared experience, on so many levels. Our thoughts and prayers are with Barbara and her family. Her legacy, the legacy of physician moms who spend their lives giving so tirelessly and generously, will always be remembered.

Barbara and I have been overwhelmed with the generosity of so many friends and colleagues who have donated to this fund that Jane and Meera kindly established for our benefit after Barbara's surgery in December. You relieved our burden while Barbara stopped working to pursue treatment, and gave us cherished time to spend together as a family - we are deeply grateful. Thank you so much to each of you!
I feel we have already received more generous support than we ever imagined, and will be directing all of your kind donations in memoriam into two Registered Education Savings Plans for the children.
