Help Dr. Victoria Save Lives in Gaza

Donation protected
My friend Dr. Victoria Aveson is a surgeon going to Gaza with Humanity Auxilium for the month of September. While there, she'll be working at a hospital to save people's lives -- both those suffering from immediate traumatic injury and those who are suffering due to the lack of basic medical care and supplies that could easily address strep throat, chronic medical issues, and pregnancy (yes, people are still giving birth in Palestine!). I'm asking you to help financially support this trip and the thousands of people seeking medical help in Gaza.

Most aid organizations sending doctors to Gaza (including Humanity Auxilium) do not pay their volunteers or compensate them for expenses like travel. Gas in Gaza costs over $20 USD a liter. There is far from enough food, water, and medical supplies.

While aid organizations are bringing medical supplies to Palestine, they cannot meet the demand created by the war, and many shipments don't even make it into Palestine at all . Doctors in Palestine share stories about their patients dying because they don't have any of the tubing to make feeding tubes. Burn victims are screaming due to lack of pain medications. People are dying due to the lack of supplies for ongoing treatment as well as emergency care. Healthcare providers going to Gaza often bring additional medical supplies in their own luggage. This requires purchasing supplies and paying excess and oversized baggage fees on the airlines.

She finished her surgical residency and is currently in fellowship making a trainee salary. In addition to the financial demands of six figures of student loan debt and New York rent, Victoria is self-funding her trip and trying to maximize the amount of additional supplies she can along with her. I've known Victoria since we were undergrads in 2007. She became one of my closest friends while I was living in New York and we still talk on the phone most weeks. I love her very dearly. I know how much being able to use her education, skills, and training to help people means to her.

As a financially precarious graduate student, I can't financially support her trip. But, I can ask you to. Please consider helping Victoria take her sharp mind, highly trained skills, gentle bedside manner, and generous heart to help people who really need a nice person to take care of them.
