Help Dreamboat Cafe grow!

Hi fellow dreamboat

We started as an idea towards the ending of 2017 to cope with the impacts of a food industry that until recently had been led and run by euro-centric standards. Now almost 6 years later we are putting our focus on the immediate needs in welcoming Dreamboat to the beginning stages of opening our Caribbean Country store here in WNC. It is still some time away but enough has started for the need to show and sustain Dreamboat's offerings and practices. That means more of our beloved curated pop-up events, taking up more vending opportunities, and expanding our printed distro and newsletter. Our work has always been centered in the stories of marginalized people and connectivity through intersections. Our ask is to meet our GoFundMe goal so we’re able to cover some necessary overhead costs. Because we exist without a brick and mortar (yet) and not on a food delivery site we're eligible for mostly independent grants, that usually takes months to approve or decline. Securing city filings, shipping and event supplies are main places funding will go to. With expanding our newsletter to now include interviews means our written work and journalist pieces come with the overhead costs of more research and planning. We've been able to create a lot with little resources and alot of footwork and firmly believe that with funding support we can create the consistency needed to sustain and GROW us as a business platform.
Please stay tuned and please put word out to help make our goal!
Thank you for reading this and thank you for existing!

Some more background on Dreamboat Cafe!
DB is a multidisciplinary small food business dedicated to community pop ups and food journalism in themes of social fairness, mental coping, and heritage. Through our zines, dinner gatherings, and written work we try for medicine and healing, we try for tough conversation surrounded by good food. A space gilded for our queer, trans, and BIPOC community.

Our BIG dream of opening a ‘country store/co-op’ space is at the beginning stages. We plan to build out a space reminiscent of the Caribbean, West Indian, and ethnic food stores and bodegas I was raised shopping in, but with less familial trauma! A home for gathering and 'ethnic' ingredients that make up WNC.

But first before any of that happens we need to establish a stronger home for our work and that’s where we’re asking for help. We have shown ourselves what we can do with little to no funds and resources and it’s beautiful and meaningful. It is also incredibly taxing to sustain a business with little to no funds and resources into a new year post pandemic. As we continue to build from the ground and write our names on the ceiling above we are asking our community and friends who are down for our cause to help get us there.

Here are some of our ongoing goals for Dreamboat:

  • Constructed website (home to all of our written work, pop up information, recipes, and merchandise )
  • Reinstating city/state filings and certifications
  • We need to secure our farmer's market space alongside obtaining supplies to adequately vend at market spaces and local events. (i.e Tables, tent, electrical hookups, signage, ect)
  • Print and distribution of our zines (we have bookshelves to fill with our past partners from Maine to Maui, help us get there)
  • Pop-up event supply support (Most of the spaces we pop up at don't have full kitchens so it's up to us to build out prep, firing, expo, and breakdown stations)
  • Seasonal products and merchandise supply support
  • Commercial Kitchen space for pop-ups event prep and product production.
  • Food rescue and re-distribution (both locally and in traveled areas)
  • Meal distribution

Dreamboat Cafe is our heart and soul, always evolving to better articulate a love letter to the marginalized. We won’t stop, too many mouths to feed, too much love to give.

Please help us reach our goal of $10,000.

If you’d like to send immediate help please send all contributions to @DreamboatCafe via venmo or PayPal !

Thank you to everyone who cared enough about our passion and worry and vision. Thank you for always encouraging the spaces we take up and even giving of your own space to help us execute some wild pop up ideas. We got big dreams y’all and even bigger love to give.

Red beans and ricely yours,
