At the outset of 2023, the year brimmed with promise and happiness for me, Rawan, a 24-year-old doctor from Gaza, Palestine. February brought the joyous occasion of my engagement to Mohammed, the man I loved. Mohammed, a dedicated dentist, ran his own clinic adjacent to Al-Shifa Hospital, while also lecturing at AlAzhar University and volunteering at the pediatric oncology dental clinic at AlRantisi Hospital. He was a beacon of hope, driven by his dreams and relentless work ethic.

Shortly after my engagement, I proudly graduated from the Islamic University Medical School, a momentous day I had long awaited. With my degree in hand, I eagerly embarked on my journey as an intern doctor in the emergency department of Shifa Hospital, a place that had always captivated my interest. Midway through 2023, my family achieved a long-held dream by moving into our new home. My parents, exemplars of hard work and perseverance, had built their lives together from scratch which you can see now how it became.

I have 2 sisters who are university students, not yet graduate and 2 brothers, one is school student, the second is married and has a single child. Through years of dedication and toil, my parents ascended in their careers within the Palestinian Ministry of Health, with my father assuming the role of head of the emergency medical unit and my mother becoming a respected lecturer.. Simultaneously, Mohammed and I began preparing our own cozy abode, eagerly anticipating our future together. Amidst the preparations, our families joined forces to orchestrate a wedding that marked the beginning of a new chapter in our lives. Yet, our happiness was short-lived. On October 7, 2023, our lives were shattered as the genocide started. We were thrust into a nightmare as we were forced to flee to Deir AlBalah under dire circumstances. Our spacious home gave way to a cramped tent, and the security we once knew became a distant memory, our houses were bombed by airstrike, and my husband clinic too.

Despite the tough circumstances, my father and Mohammed remained unwavering in their commitment to helping others. My father tirelessly coordinated ambulance services, while Mohammed selflessly volunteered his dental expertise at the primary care clinic in Deir AlBalah, providing relief to refugees. In solidarity, I too volunteered at Shuhada Al Aqsa Hospital's emergency department. However, the toll of war soon became unbearable as we lost cherished individuals to the continuous genocide. Dr. Hani, a brilliant colleague with his whole family, along with two dear friends, fell victim to Israeli bombings, their memories forever etched in our hearts. The horrors escalated when tragedy struck closer to family. As I tended to the wounded in Shu

hada Al Aqsa Hospital's ER, I faced the unfathomable reality of treating my own relatives. My cousin, his wife, and daughter perished in the bombings, followed by the loss of my uncle by an Israeli shrapnel. With each passing day, the onslaught intensified, leaving us grappling with despair and uncertainty. Our homes, hospitals, and dreams lay in ruins, overshadowed by the specter of war. Faced with insurmountable odds, the only recourse left was to safeguard our lives and seek refuge beyond Gaza's borders and then complete my sisters and brother learning, and me with Mohammed training and working medical journey. Cost breakdown: 1-Arrange permits to leave the Gaza Strip which will cost(5000-$6000) for each adult. ( 9 adults) 2-Arrange permits to leave the Gaza strip for the single child in my family (2500-3000$) 3- Accommodation and living expenses (transportation, food, and clothing) in Egypt for an extended period. (1000$) For each. 4-Apartment rent for an extended period in Egypt (3000_4000$).
