Help Dylan and Maria recover from the flood

My name is Maegan Deighton and I am the mother of Dylan Bullock, the BC Wildland firefighter who suffered a horrible firefighting accident earlier this year, who has now since lost his home and all of his possessions due to the devastating flooding in Merritt BC. As you can imagine…..this has been an incredibly trying time for Dylan and his live in girlfriend Maria Cihlar…..who have already been through so much this year……only now to be forced out of their home and safe space in Merritt due to flooding. They reside in the area of town that was hit the hardest and woke up to two feet of water in their home that fateful Monday morning.. The full magnitude of this devastation is not even fully known sadly, and the waiting to see is quite hard on both of them mentally. Insurance might not cover losses. Gladly, they are safe in Kelowna at present with family, but are now facing the fact that everything they own is probably now lost…..and returning back to the house to potentially recover anything is probably a long while away, as both bridges accessing that part of town are either gone or not safe. It has not been an easy year for many in this area due to fires this summer and now the devastating floods that have hit hard. I can only hope that clean up and knowledge about the condition of their property happens as quickly as possible, so they can at least start rebuilding their lives once again. This young couple will have to now replace all of their belongings, clothing, computers, etc which is a huge cost. Maria alone has lost over $8000 worth of photography equipment, which was part of her livelihood. They will also need to live for the next while and are unsure where or how that will happen until more details become clear. My heart goes out to everyone who has suffered and lost homes during this flooding…..it is hard to bear witness to.
