Fighting the Silent Struggle: Support Mental Health Awareness

Why we are fundraising for Mental Health America

Hi, my name is Valerie Avila, and I’m a student at the University of North Texas. I’m raising awareness about mental health—something that affects so many people, yet is still so often misunderstood or overlooked.
This cause is deeply personal to me. Someone I love lives with chronic depression, and I’ve seen how heavy that burden can be—how it impacts every part of their life, and ours. I’ll be honest: I’m still learning how to support them. There are days when I feel helpless. But what I do know is that mental health matters, and access to the right support can make all the difference.
That’s why I’m supporting Mental Health America (MHA)—the nation’s leading community-based nonprofit dedicated to helping all Americans live mentally healthier lives (Mental Health America, 2025).
What drives MHA is its commitment to promoting mental health as a vital part of overall wellness. Their work includes:

  • Prevention services for all

  • Early identification and intervention for those at risk,

  • Integrated care and treatment for those who need it, and

  • Recovery as the ultimate goal (Mental Health America, 2025).

With demand for mental health care higher than ever before, it's clear that this is not just a personal issue—it’s a social one. Over 20% of adults in the U.S. experience mental illness. In 2022 alone, 59.3 million adults received a mental health diagnosis—that’s 23.1% of the adult population (NIMH, 2023).
In the face of this crisis, MHA’s mission is not only essential—it’s hopeful. Their work gives people tools, care, and the support they need to keep going, even in the darkest moments.
If you’ve ever struggled yourself—or watched someone you love fight an invisible battle—I hope this message resonates with you. Please consider donating, sharing, or spreading the word. Every contribution, no matter how small, brings us closer to a world where mental health care is accessible, compassionate, and stigma-free.

Where The Funds Will Go
Mental Health America receives 100% of all collected funds which they use to:
Provide mental health resources and educational materials
Support programs for early intervention and prevention
Advocate for better mental health services in our communities
Offer tools and support for individuals struggling with mental health challenges

Thank you for reading. And thank you, truly, for caring.
