Help Ease Asia Bibi's Financial Difficulties

My name is Ailia, and I am a Pakistani journalist. In March 2023, I reported on the challenges that Asia Bibi, a Christian woman from Pakistan, is facing in Canada, where she had to flee after spending eight years in a Pakistani prison on false allegations of blasphemy. The article detailing her ordeal can be found here . Currently, she is working a menial job to support her family and cover her expenses. Unfortunately, her health has deteriorated due to a joint ailment aggravated by the long hours of standing that her job requires.

During my conversations with Asia, I realized that she and her family lead a lonely life in Canada with no support system, primarily because of the language barrier. Moreover, the fact that Asia is still considered a "blasphemer" by powerful right-wing groups back home prevents her from trusting any fellow Pakistanis she may encounter in Canada. Being from a small village in Punjab, Asia and her family had very limited exposure to life outside their rural area. This is why they have struggled to navigate life in Canada and access the resources available to asylum seekers like them.

The objective of this fundraising initiative is to enable Asia to take a break from work and prioritize her health. Currently, her main concern is paying the rent for her house as she must work tirelessly to ensure she has a roof over her head. By achieving the goal of this GoFundMe campaign, we aim to cover Asia's rent and some basic living expenses for a year. This will alleviate the burden of long hours of work and allow her to regain her health and spirits while seeking the medical assistance that she requires, while we devise a long-term plan to support her.
