Help Easy’s recovery from neonatal maladjustment syndrome!

Hi, we are Malin and Ceilidh and we want to start this fundraiser to help out Meadow Brook Stables, located in Alton, Nova Scotia with the care of their foal, Easy.

Easy was born March 22nd at 2:57am, and her start in life has been anything but easy. Initially, she was thought to have aspirated on fluids during birth, but it soon became apparent that there was something else going on.

As she failed to nurse, the vet was called and she was tube fed her mother’s colostrum. Around 6:30am the same day, she had a serious seizure. The vet was called back and Neonatal Maladjustment Syndrome was suspected. The Madigan squeeze was performed, and Easy showed improvements after the squeeze, so it was continued every few hours. She has made improvements with every squeeze. She eventually took the bottle after being tube fed twice more.

Neonatal Maladjustment Syndrome can present in different degrees of severity with a wide variety of symptoms. Although Easy has made big improvements since birth, she has continued to have seizures and is still unable to nurse from her mother. Most babies born with Neonatal Maladjustment Syndrome are expected to make a full recovery and live a normal life, and we want that for Easy!

On March 24 she had another seizure. The vet was contacted and she had diazepam and dexamethasome administered to stop the seizure. The suspected cause of this seizure was delayed swelling. A plan was made for the following day, and the morning of March 25, Easy received DSMO and Mannitol via IV.

March 27 she had another seizure, requiring more medications and veterinary care.

Easy is going to require continious vet care, and as we all know, this can be very costly. As a newborn, Easy also does not have insurance.
