Help The Eclectus Ark (Avian Research and Conservation Institute) continue providing exemplary avian welfare while promoting conservation and research efforts.
AVIAN RESEARCH AND CONSERVATION INSTITUTE
The Eclectus Ark is a haven for rare and vanishing eclectus parrots. Founded in 2016 and managed by Laurella Desborough and Lisa Woodworth, the Eclectus Ark has grown into a center for care and preservation of eclectus and other parrot species.
Our expertise has made us a resource for biologists, zoos, and vets from all over the world. We hear from people from the Middle East, India, Canada, the US and everywhere in-between. We’re always available to assist pet owners who find us on Facebook.
OUR HISTORY
Laurella Desborough is a world renowned expert in eclectus parrots. She is the author of many journal articles and co-author of the first book on Eclectus parrots in addition, she continues to speak at avian conferences.
Lisa Woodworth has been working with eclectus for over 20 years, from the time she acquired her pet eclectus, Sheba. Lisa has helped many bird owners with their Eclectus parrots.
Together, Lisa and Laurella purchased their property near Claremore, Oklahoma, away from city life, The rural location is the perfect spot for the Ark’s flock.
A Diverse Mission
The eclectus parrots at our facility include breeding pairs of Aruensis, Redsided, Solomons, and Vosmaeri. It is our goal to maintain the purity of these subspecies as they are often crossbred and pure lines are diluted.
We re-home Eclectus and other parrots whose owners can no longer care for them or whose owners have died. All our parrots are housed in 3 buildings, 30 x 60 feet each. Our staff help with feeding and cleaning.
WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP
As we have grown over the years we have needed to build more facilities and purchase more equipment: commercial freezers, pressure washer for floors, electric tools for working on flights and outdoor aviaries, all of which are essential for the care of the parrots.
But we have had a tough time since Covid due to inflation, fuel, and food prices. This winter was especially brutal as we had a long stretch of freezing weather that coincided with plumbing failures and a serious propane tank leak. One of our benefactors provided us with two Dyson heaters that sustained our birds so they were kept warm. This perfect storm of issues has brought us to the point that we need your help. I am Patricia Gower on the Board of Directors. I live in San Antonio, Texas and want to help the wonderful work done by Eclectus Ark
PLEASE HELP US HELP PARROTS
We turn to you, our dear friends who love eclectus and other parrots. Our expenses for food, for veterinary care and for maintenance have risen drastically. We want to continue to help people learn about the stunning eclectus parrot, both in nature and in human care. With your help we can continue our work on conserving bloodlines and assisting parrot owners with questions and issues.
So please donate and be an ARK Partner! It is extremely important and greatly appreciated as it makes a big difference in our ability to provide care for these wonderful parrots.
There are several ways to give:
