Ed Mezynski is always ready to help others in need. A friend to many and a talented drummer around the Pittsboro-Chapel Hill-Durham area since the 1980s – in bands like The Spoonbenders, the Fat Bastard Blues Band, Joe Bell & the Stinging Blades, Tornado Blues Band, Good Juju, and others – Ed has played for multiple benefits, giving good grooving energy and raising needed funds when friends and members of the music community suffered setbacks and medical emergencies.
Now Ed is in a fight for his life and needs help.
Ed has been in a lot of pain that has interfered with his music and his daily living, so you have not heard him playing out much lately. Over many months he has been working with doctors, a physical therapist, an acupuncturist, and an amazing chiropractor, doing everything he could to heal and to get to the bottom of what was causing the problems with his back and arm. Sadly he discovered that he has an aggressive type of Prostate Cancer that has spread to several locations, from his pelvis to his spine to his neck.
We are Kim Hawks – an esophageal cancer survivor, whose music and art benefit last spring was spear-headed by none other than Ed Mezynski – and Bill Moore, a musician friend from the Triad.
We are concerned about Ed’s and his wife Mary’s financial situation now: Ed and Mary Stokes married a year ago but since then Mary had neuroendocrine
cancer and needed a costly operation; Ed was laid off almost two years ago from his long-time Network Administrator job; no other IT positions have been available; medical expense debts have risen; Ed is still a year away from social security; and now Ed needs expensive cancer treatments and possibly surgery.
Please do what you can to support Ed and Mary. Also please share Ed’s campaign widely, on Facebook especially, and elsewhere, so we can reach all his friends!! All funds raised will go directly to Ed to pay for medical treatments. Thank you for helping.
