Help Edda Rebuild Her Family's Home

Hello, my name is Kira Arguello, and this GoFundMe is on behalf of my cousin Edda Sorenson and her family.

 

On February 22 Edda was startled by the smell of smoke coming outside of her mobile home in Palm Desert. She had walked outside to realize that a palm tree on her property had caught fire and was now racing towards her home at high speeds. Edda attempted to extinguish the fire with her water hose but failed as flames and smoke quickly surrounded her. On top of that, the 70 mph desert winds were blowing hot embers everywhere making the fire raging and uncontrollable.

 

After the fire department finally extinguished the fire, Edda was faced with devasting news. Her mobile home was completely burned, and her family had lost EVERYTHING. The family had lost all clothing, electronics, appliances, furniture, irreplaceables, every single thing they owned was gone forever. Edda lived in the home with 6 others including her daughter, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, the youngest in the home only being 10 years old.

 

Thankfully, no one was injured in the fire. However, Edda did suffer from smoke inhalation and spent time in the hospital for treatment. Edda is 78 years old and already suffers from acute COPD. Because of her COPD, she is on oxygen and keeps an oxygen tank by her side majority of the time.

 

Since the fire, the entire family has not only been displaced but also separated. Some of the family remained in Palm Springs, others with friends in LA, and some with family in West Covina. Unfortunately due to financial circumstances, Edda did not have home insurance at this time, therefore will not be receiving any funds to rebuild. The family has received some aid from Red Cross, but this relief is only short-term and minimal. They are in desperate need of money to get a temporary apartment for the time it will take to hopefully replace their home and personal belongings. Rent, deposits, security, utilities, and food are much more than they can afford at this time. A donation of any denomination would be so greatly appreciated. Please help us help them. Thank you.
