Help Edmonds Co-op Preschool With Permit Costs

Hello, my name is Emily, and I am the current treasurer for Edmonds Cooperative Preschool. I am reaching out to our community in the hope that we can preserve this preschool and allow it to continue to serve the community for many years to come.

Edmonds Co-op preschool is a small non-profit preschool that has been providing affordable and inclusive play-based early education for families in the Edmonds/Lynnwood area for more than 40 years. For much of that time we were fortunate enough to have a classroom at the Alderwood Early Learning Center through the Edmonds school district.

Last spring, we were told that due to budget cuts we would no longer be able to use the classroom and would need to find a new location for the 2023-2024 school year and beyond. We were able to find a wonderful new space at Edmonds Presbyterian Church and have been working tirelessly since July to get moved in. Unfortunately, there have been many costs associated with moving the preschool equating to several thousand dollars, and much of our reserves have been spent on permitting costs with the City of Edmonds.

We thought we had made it over the final hurdle when we were hit with another setback. The city is requiring traffic impact form that will need to be filled out by a traffic engineer. We need at least $3,500 to cover this cost as well as other city fees, professional consultations, moving expenses, and other updates to our new space. These costs have put a significant strain on our finances and has become a hardship for our preschool.

That is why we are reaching out to you, our community members, to help us in this time of need so we can continue to provide valuable early education services for families for many more years to come.
