Help Edna Amaro Secure Housing
Donation protected
Hello friends and neighbors -
On January 25 I, like many in our community, felt heartbroken reading the story in Lancaster Newspapers about Edna Amaro, who is being evicted from her home of 45 years because her landlord wanted to renovate the building, and raise the rent 3x. Edna lives on a very fixed income, and is facing homelessness as of April 1.
Her story touched our hearts, and serves as a microcosm of the homeless crisis, and the way people fall through the holes in the social safety net. While one person might not be able to solve the bigger problem of homelessness in Lancaster, we can collectively help Edna secure her new housing, complete with her beloved friend, Mr. Tiger the cat.
Please consider donating to this GoFundMe to help keep Edna off the streets, and give her some extra help as she looks to fund new housing.
Here is the link to read the complete story about Edna:
We are hoping to raise $5000 for Edna to use for:
- First and last month's rent at a new place
- Moving expenses
- Ensuring she is able to keep Mr. Tiger
All the money raised will go directly to Edna Amaro, but GoFundMe does take a very small percentage of each credit card transaction (2.9% + .30)
(Read more about the GoFundMe fees here).
Who am I?
Hi! My name is Heather Teysko, and I live in Lancaster, having just moved back to the area after 25 years away (I grew up in Paradise but haven't lived here as an adult!). I'm not related to Edna in any way - I've never met her! But I emailed LNP to find out how I could help Edna, and realized that there wasn't already a GoFundMe for her. So in the spirit of being the change I wanted to see in the world, I decided to start one.
