Help Edward get his motorised wheelchair
Donation protected
Hi all I’m Rachel I’ve set this page up for our amazing son Edward who was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy at 4years old.
DMD is a progressive condition normally diagnosed in childhood. It causes all the muscles in the body to weaken. There currently is no cure for Duchenne but there is hope. Living with Duchenne means that Edward already struggles to do all the things that he loves, like playing tag with friends, being able to play and climb at the park and riding his bike/ scooter.
As a mum to be told your child will most possibly end up in a wheelchair, loose the ability to use muscles we as able bodied people just take for granted was absolutely soul destroying to hear. Sat in a consultants room at Great Ormond Street on my own just myself and Edward, I felt my whole world had crashed before my eyes. For weeks and weeks after I was like a zombie I had no idea what to do or how to feel, knowing my beautiful full of character little boy would have to be under so many different hospitals, consultants and life is only going to get tougher.
As time moves on and Edward is getting bigger and heavier the reason for us setting up this fundraiser is to hopefully get some help towards the cost of an all terrain motorised wheelchair, to give Edward the independence he needs at this age. He currently has a manual chair but is unable to self propel, it is left to myself to get him around which is a struggle when we are on days out.
The all terrain chair comes at a whopping price at roughly £15000, this doesn’t include having to insure or service it. The reason we have chosen this chair is because as a family we love being outdoors going to different places, going to the woods, to the beach etc. I hate the thought of him ever missing out on doing the things we love to do as a family or with friends.
Sam has decided to take on not 1 but 4 triathlons this year one being
1st May Tonbridge Triathlon ✅
11th June Whiteoaks triathlon ✅
18th June The Bridge triathlon ✅
24th September Hever castle
So to help us make Edwards dreams come true to have his independence and the freedom he deserves, all funds that are raised or donated will go towards this amazing chair, anything left over will then be used to cater for Edwards ever growing needs of this cruel condition which will become more and more debilitating over time. Thank you for reading if you can spare just a couple of ££ it would be truly appreciated.
