Help Elect Danny Alvey to Wicklow County Council

Hi, my name is Danny Alvey and I am a native of Wicklow Town, now living in Newtownmountkennedy with my partner and two young children.

I am honoured and excited to have been selected to contest the Local Elections in June 2024 for Wicklow County Council as a Social Democrats candidate for the Wicklow LEA.

I work as a fundraising manager for Ireland’s largest poverty charity. As part of this work I travel the country hearing the stories of hard-working families barely making ends meet in modern Ireland.

I also volunteer in our community in a number of local groups such as Wicklow Welcomes, East Coast Greenway committee and Newtownmountkennedy Tidy Towns, where I have been vice-chair since 2021.

I am really passionate about the environment and our beautiful nature here in Wicklow. This led my siblings and I, along with other local conservationists, to create the environmental charity ReWild Wicklow in 2021. We wanted to use people power to support as many nature restoration projects that we could and help increase habitats for local wildlife, as well as sequester carbon. Since then, we have recruited over 1,500 volunteers and partnered on 30 different sites planting trees, rewetting peatland, sowing wildflowers and digging ponds.

I believe I can use all of these experiences to be a strong and progressive voice for our district. I will fight for more ambitious climate and biodiversity action, increased public transport, more schools, sport facilities and amenities for our growing communities, truly affordable housing and to make our Wicklow the incredible place to live that I know it can be.

But I need your help to get elected this June!

I am raising money to fund my local election campaign and your donation will help me reach as many people in this district as possible:

• €10 will help me pay for 1 election poster

• €50 will help me pay for an advert on social media

• €100 will help me buy 2,000 leaflets

Any support you can offer would be greatly appreciated. Elections are expensive and newer parties like the Social Democrats do not have the same resources as the older parties that have dominated Irish politics for so long.

The Wicklow Local Electoral Area includes Wicklow Town, Newtownmountkennedy, Rathnew, Ashford, Kilpedder, Roundwood, Glenealy, Laragh, Glendalough, Annamoe, Moneystown and Brittas Bay.

Donations can only be accepted from residents of the Republic of Ireland or Irish citizens abroad. I cannot accept donations over €1,000 from one person and cannot take an anonymous donation of over €100. I may have to contact you after your donation to confirm the details.

By donating, you confirm that you are an Irish resident or an Irish citizen living overseas and that you have not exceeded the maximum annual donation to the Social Democrats of €2,500.
