Help Elect Ollie Power for Swords

I am housing activist and trade unionist standing for election to Fingal County Council to fight for ordinary working-class people, not for landlords and the wealthy. I have led successful anti-eviction campaigns across Fingal, preventing families from going into emergency accommodation, organising residents to fight for their rights, engaging with TDs, councillors and other bodies to protect families at risk.

I have a strong track record in anti-racist campaigning. Swords is an international community – 30% of us were born outside Ireland. Racism has no place in Swords and if you vote for me I will fight for the rights of all in our community.

As a Secondary School teacher in a DEIS school I see firsthand how the cost of living and housing crisis affects children from working class and marginalised backgrounds very badly. Every day I am reminded that the only solution to the problems caused by the capitalist system is socialism.

If you vote for me you are voting for a socialist who will fight for the interests of Working-Class people, Migrants, Travellers, LGBTQ+ communities.

2024 is our chance for change. The local, European and general elections are our chance to kick Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael out of government for the first time in history.

Fingal County Council has been run by a coalition of Fine Gael, Fianna Fáil,the Greens and Independents since 2019. Just like the government nationally, they have failed people, worsened the housing crisis and delivered worsening public services.

We need a left Council just like we need a left government. People Before Profit is the only party to give a commitment not to go into coalition with FF or FG at local or national level. Instead, we want to see a left Council which builds public and genuinely affordable housing and invests in services.

My priorities are to:

Clear the housing lists by massively increasing funding for Tenant in Situ scheme & the identification and acquisition of 5000 vacant homes, taking corporate owned residential properties into public ownership & advocating for and taking part in directly building social homes on council land.

Push for state built, owned and operated public transport, housing, and alternative energy infrastructure to provide meaningful employment alternatives to the environmentally catastrophic and undemocratic planned growth of Dublin airport to 40 million passengers P.A.

Invest in our parks - make our public spaces family- and pet-friendly.

Make sure that the county development plan is radically proofed for environmental impact - no to DAA’s airport expansion and construction of proposed Amazon and other data centres

What will my donation be used for?

This GoFundME will be used to fund my election campaign. It will go to pay for the day-to-day things like leaflets, posters and zip-ties, and banners.
