Here is what happened:
Feb. 7th:
Eliana was taken to urgent care on Feb. 7th because she started to look pale and had blue feet. When the urgent care doctor saw her, they took her vitals, and her oxygen levels were hovering around 60-70% (when they normally should be at 95-100%). The urgent care doctor immediately called the ambulance for Eliana to be taken to the hospital emergency room.
When Eliana got transferred to the emergency room, she was admitted to the hospital right away because her oxygen level was reading around 60% and at one point was as low as 57%, which is very low, and it was surprising that she did not faint.
At the emergency hospital bed, they checked Eliana’s vitals and got her on an oxygen mask. She was admitted a couple of hours later to the general care unit for children. She was doing well and on her way to recovery. They had her on 3L of oxygen and started to wean her down. Her oxygen levels were good and hovering around 95-100%. They got her down to .5L of oxygen, and her vitals didn’t change for the worse. She was a really happy baby, her vitals were looking really good, and hospital staff were telling us that most likely we will be discharging from the hospital in the next several days.
Feb. 8th:
In the evening, Eliana’s oxygen levels started falling. We called in the nurse and asked to speak to the doctor because her oxygen level was turned up to 3.5L and her oxygen level was still hovering around 80%, when it was hovering at 95-100% several hours before that on .5L.
When the doctor came in, he tried to turn her to lay in different positions but nothing was helping. Her oxygen levels continued to drop, and they got to around 60% and would not go up. At that point, the doctor called in a rapid response team, and she was moved to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. She was fighting for her life, and there were no signs of her getting better. She was nose diving off a cliff, and it seemed like nothing was helping.
We continued to pray for her and have faith that she will recover. The PICU got her vitals under control and put her on sedative medication.
The PICU started her on anti-bacterial medication and got a feeding tube to give her formula. They also had to do a blood transfusion because of how much blood she lost.
Feb. 10th:
The PICU took Eliana off of the oxygen mask and put her on a high-flow nostril oxygen tube. She was put on 11L of oxygen, and her vitals stayed at around 90-100% oxygen levels. They got her off of the anti-bacterial medication and we were told that she had a lung virus.
Feb. 13th:
Eliana is still in PICU under the direct supervision of a nurse. She is doing better. She is now on 8L of oxygen and on a recovery road.
We are told that most likely we are going to be here for at least several weeks.
