Help Elijah's Farm Grow!

Hi!! Welcome to Elijah's Farm!!

We are a small farm in Rougemont NC, specializing in market produce, and herbs. We are PROUD to be a Woman owned, Black owned farm, which is extremely rare in the agricultural world. In fact, only 36% of farmers are women, and only a mere 1% are Black!! Given the history of Agriculture in America, we are looking to bring innovation, fresh energy, and passionate commitment to the work of feeding our community. And that includes you!

We grow Tatsoi, and other salad greens!

Elijah's Farm
is named after my son (he's the cute little one in the pictures :) ). I started this farm because I wanted to be able to teach him how to live self sustainably while also caring for the environment and the community around him.  I also wanted him to see that business ownership is an option for him, and develop the next generation of land ownership, and generational wealth in my community. As many of us know, many black and brown families do not receive the same financial opportunities in life, and thus are constantly trying to get their piece of the American Dream. As a single mom, I've worked extremely hard to be able to provide for my family, and this opportunity, to be a provider of healthy, sustainable food, to fight social injustice through the elimination of food apartheid, and to educate other families like mine about healthy eating, allows me to bridge the lessons I am teaching my son, with the community that I love.

WE NEED YOUR HELP!!

Elijah's Farm
has a lot of big plans, and we need the help of our community to do it.  Our long range goals are to develop our farm into a fully working farm, retreat space, and event center.  We seek to offer Educational programming that helps teach families about the importance of agriculture in our daily lives, Summer camps for hands on agriculture experience, and Farm to Table events. We need to expand to be able to meet the growing needs in our community and to provide jobs and ethical wages within our community. Your financial contribution ( and hopefully some of your sweat equity :) ) will help us to do the following:

1. Expand our Grow space: Currently, we are operating on a 1/3 of an acre, but we have 10 acres at our disposal. Our goals for 2020-21 are to expand our operation, by adding 4 greenhouses and 9 raised beds. Your contribution would help us buy supplies, like greenhouse materials, lumber, organic dirt, and irrigation lines.

2. Expand our Mushroom Cultivation: We've just begun our first mushroom house and are looking to expand to 3 additional so that we can offer our community different kinds of mushrooms, including types that provide excellent health benefits. Your contribution will help us purchase additional grow house materials.

3. Develop our Mobile Farmers Market: We are so excited to get into the community!! While we love farmers markets, often times for small farms like ours, the farmers market isn't a great place to sell vegetables, especially when competing with very large farms. But a mobile market allows us to bring the farmers market to YOU. We want to partner with local community organizations, faith based organizations, schools, etc, to bring fresh food to families. We also plan to partner with other BIPOC farmers to provide economic opportunities, and hopefully inspire the next generation to consider farming as a profession.  Did you know that the average age of the American farmer is 70? At the present rate we will not have enough farmers to supply the world with food within the next 20 years!! Your contribution will help us purchase a truck and outfit it with refrigeration so that we can keep our vegetables at the proper temperatures.

For the last year, I've worked two full-time jobs, one to pay my family expenses, and one to develop our farm. In August, one of my jobs ended, and in the midst of COVID19 finding another full time job that allows me to work from home while my son is in remote learning, remains a difficult task. As the fall/winter season approaches we need your help to expand the farm so that we can keep growing in the winter, and keep building, even in the midst of a temporary setback.

In times like these, it is so important that we all work together for the good of our communities. We are thankful to be a community partner and are so grateful that you would consider donating to Elijah's Farm!!
