Help Elize recover from her accident

Donation protected
On November 24th, our friend Elize was out walking with her family in Santa Cruz when she was hit by a driver who police say was under the influence of illegal drugs. The driver apparently passed out while driving and crashed into Elize and her boyfriend on the Murray Street Bridge over the Santa Cruz harbor. Police later found fentanyl, prescription drugs, and an open container in his car. Elize's leg was severely injured in the accident. Her boyfriend was knocked off the Murray Street Bridge into the Santa Cruz Harbor. He fell about 30 feet and hit a cement barrier before landing in the water, where he was rescued by the harbor patrol. Multiple family members, including a 13-year-old boy, witnessed the accident.

Both Elize and her boyfriend were hospitalized and had to have surgery. Elize will have a titanium rod in her leg for the rest of her life. She is currently using a walker and moving with difficulty, and doctors estimate that it will take her 3-6 months to recover. She doesn't have health insurance and isn't eligible for disability benefits. While she hopes to recover the cost of medical expenses and lost income from the driver, legal proceedings take time and have uncertain outcomes.

Funds will be used to cover basic living expenses during this time when Elize is unable to work, as well as the cost of ongoing medical expenses for her recovery.
