Help Ellie Belcher Beat Leukemia (AML)

Donation protected
We, the friends and extended family of 15-year-old Ellie Belcher are starting this Go Fund Me campaign in an effort to raise money for our precious girl during her extended 6 months hospital stay.

On 11-28-18 Ellie was taken to the E.R. with symptoms consistent with flu.  Unfortunately, her diagnosis was much worse.  Our lives were forever changed when we heard her diagnosis of Acute Myeloid Leukemia; a rare type of leukemia in children and one that is particularly aggressive and challenging.

The thought of Ellie having ANYTHING wrong with her was utterly unfathomable.  As a highly competitive volleyball player who just won an award for Best Offensive Player, Ellie is a strong, disciplined, well-conditioned athlete.  Words like smart, fierce, focused, determined and tenacious apply to Ellie’s playing style, and those attributes will serve her well in her battle against cancer.

Ellie is thoughtful, considerate and kind with a heart for volunteering; making a difference in this world by serving others.   An “A” student, Ellie is an avid reader who also enjoys watching movies, playing card games, and doing crafts.  This is not a journey any of us would have chosen and it breaks our hearts that one so lovely, lively, joyful and amazing must endure such suffering at the tender age of 15.  Ellie is proving herself to be a tough, brave, young lady.  We marvel at her courage and strength!

Some of the things Ellie will miss most during these next 6 months in the hospital will be:  1) Playing volleyball with her teammates; she worked HARD to earn a spot with LUV!  2)  Attending classes with her friends; Ellie loves learning and enjoys school.  Although it is unlikely that she will “fall behind”, she will miss out on the FUN aspects of high school this year.  3) The luxury of just hanging out alone in her bedroom; making her signature “To Do” lists and dreaming typical teenage girl dreams.  4) Looking after her 10-year-old brother, Adam; they fight like most siblings, but Ellie is Adam’s rock star and he adores her!  5) Loving on her spoiled-rotten Beagles, Louie and Dolly!

Things expected for the next 6 months: her “new normal” will consist of lab draws, medical tests and procedures, blood transfusions, platelet transfusions, 5 cycles of chemotherapy totaling at least 101 doses, and possibly more days spent in ICU.  She will celebrate small victories and endure occasional disappointments and setbacks. .

We can only imagine how financially devastating this tragedy might be.  Along with the expenses listed above will be a certain loss of income for her family when things are most critical.  For instance, the night chemo was first started, Ellie had a life-threatening reaction to the harsh drug and was quickly rushed to ICU where she stayed 5 days and nights and was put on a ventilator and feeding tube.

We are determined to win this battle alongside Ellie.  No family could survive this fight alone.  If you wish to make a donation to help cover the medical costs and expenses Ellie’s family will incur, we will be forever grateful for your kind compassion and generosity.  Please lift Ellie and her family up in prayer.  Pray for miracles…pray for complete healing…pray for peace…pray for strength.  From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you! Your prayers and support mean more than you could ever possibly know!

Blessings,
