Help Elyse & Seb on Their Journey to Parenthood

Donation protected
Hello,

My name is Kaitlin Young and I have the absolute privilege of being best friends with the kindest, most generous and most loving people in the entire world - Elyse & Seb Moland. I have created this page on their behalf, as they navigate complications in their pursuit of becoming parents. They need our support now, more than ever. You will not meet two people more deserving of becoming parents and any child will be lucky to call them mom and dad.

Their Love Story

Elyse and Seb’s love story began with a chance encounter in the summer of 2013 in London, England, where Seb lived, and Elyse was visiting. This serendipitous meeting sparked a whirlwind romance that endured long distance after Elyse returned to Toronto, Canada to complete her degree. Their love conquered the miles between them, and in February 2014, Elyse joined Seb in London. By September 4th of that same year, surrounded by their families and close friends, Elyse and Seb were married.

Dreams of Family

With a shared dream of starting a family, Elyse and Seb worked tirelessly for five years in their respective careers in London. Elyse achieved a significant milestone by co-founding a luxury fitness boutique, and Seb became a Master barber. Their dedication to their professional goals was matched by their commitment to building a future together.

In October 2019, Elyse and Seb moved to Canada, filled with hope and excitement to start their family. However, their journey to parenthood was met with unexpected challenges and ultimately, they were unable to conceive naturally. They then began exploring donor options and soon realized the financial burden of their situation.

A Heartbreaking Journey

Determined to find a solution, Elyse and Seb learned about a more affordable yet high-quality clinic in Prague. They decided to pursue this option, which came with a cost of $40,000. In May 2023, they experienced the joy of a successful embryo transfer. Elyse and Seb were elated when a pregnancy test came back positive. The baby's due date was set for February 7, 2024. And for the next 18 weeks, Seb and Elyse nurtured their growing baby and passed all pre-natal testing.

However, at the 19-week scan, Elyse's and Seb's joy turned to heartbreak. Their baby was diagnosed with a serious congenital abnormality and the prognosis was grim. After much deliberation, Elyse and Seb made the agonizing decision to terminate the pregnancy.

On October 18, 2023, their son, Von Marcus Moland, was born and passed away at 24 weeks, resulting in unimaginable pain and grief for Elyse and Seb.

A Glimmer of Hope

Despite this immense loss, Elyse and Seb remain hopeful about their future as parents. After further testing and genetic counseling, they were reassured that Von’s condition was not genetically linked, meaning they could safely use the remaining embryos cryopreserved in Prague. They now have three embryos left, one of which has been tested and two that require testing.

Elyse and Seb now hope to begin their journey to parenthood in Prague again. To proceed, they need to test the remaining embryos, select the best quality one, and travel abroad for another transfer. The financial burden, however, remains significant. They need $50,000 to cover these expenses and to make their dream of parenthood a reality. This amount includes the cost of genetic testing for the embryos, hormone treatments, travel expenses and the embryo transfer procedure itself.
