Help Emeka Stay Alive, Help Save Emeka's Life

My name is Ngozi Okerulu, married to Emeka Okerulu for 16yrs and blessed with three lovely children.

In August 2021, an unfortunate event occurred to our family as a routine medical checkup for Emeka’s back pain and neck pain revealed metastatic non-small cell lung cancer with metastasis to the brain and spine. Unexpected, unwanted, but here we found ourselves.

Radiation, chemotherapy and immunotherapy were recommended and commenced in September 2021. In January 2022, complications from immunotherapy led to fluid accumulation in the brain and recurring seizures; in April 2022, brain surgery to insert a VP shunt was conducted to relieve the pressure in the brain. He resumed chemotherapy in May 2022. The disruption to his routine therapy had severe effects as a progress CT scan, and brain MRI in August 2022 revealed new growths in the lungs and multiple spread to his brain. It was determined that the cancer treatment was no longer effective, and a new treatment must be considered. However, no treatments approved in Canada target the type of mutation "HER2" that he has. As you would imagine, this news was devastating to us all. However, there is a ray of light.

We have been informed of a recently approved treatment by the FDA (but not yet approved in Canada) that targets HER2 mutations for lung cancer. Still, the cost ($12,000 every three weeks) of embarking on this aggressive treatment against further progression of this disease is enormous and one we cannot bear alone. Therefore, I am appealing for your support in this quest to shoulder the bill and give Emeka a fighting chance.
