Help Emily Rue Fight Cancer!

Hi! We are organizing this fundraiser for our friend, Emily Rue. She has been diagnosed with late-stage melanoma skin cancer and has decided to do treatment out of MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. And we need your help! More details on her diagnosis are below, but she will have two major surgeries in Houston within the next week (surgery date to be scheduled soon). All money raised will go towards travel expenses, lodging, food, and medical costs. If more is raised than the original amount, the funds will be put towards travel expenses for post-op visits three weeks and four months out, follow-up appointments for the next five years, and treatment depending on test results from the surgery.

A couple of weeks ago, Emily was diagnosed with late-stage melanoma skin cancer. She has met with two oncologists, one out of Georgia and one out of Texas, recommending the same treatment plan. She will have two surgeries, one for current cancerous cell removal where the melanoma was on her leg and the other to determine if the cancer has spread. Immunotherapy drugs will also be a part of her treatment as the risk of melanoma coming back is now increased. Surgery and recovery will be extensive due to where the two incisions will be, so she will be resting and elevating back home in Georgia once she is cleared to leave Houston.

People have asked how they can help support Emily in this time, and the two main ways right now are through prayer and financially. This is a lot to manage and she needs her people behind her! The main prayer is that there is no lymph node involvement and the cancer has not spread. The next is safe travels out to Houston for surgery and comfortable travels back post-surgery. Financially supporting Emily in this time is a tangible way you can help. Medical and travel expenses and so many other things that come with this rack up quickly, and it's a stressor she shouldn't have to worry about as she is focusing on her health and getting the best treatment possible.
