Help empower the girl child in Uganda - 2024

Hello Again!

It's me, Anitta, and it's that time of the year where I come to ask you to join me in being a part of an underprivileged girl's village.

In 2022, I started this initiative as a way of giving thanks while reaching back, and we raised $1,422. This enabled us to support over 150 girls from underprivileged backgrounds with sanitary products and school necessities.

For the 2023 drive, we raised $385, which I rounded up to $450 to help support 50 young mothers and girls with reusable menstrual products.

This year, I am running this drive again because I know that every little helps and if we change the life of one girl by making her menstrual experience less stressful, then the world will be a better place for that one girl. Like always, I will be working with my friend Sandra Nabuule, who runs the NGO African Empowerment Hub - Uganda.

As usual, I will share a personal story to relay how important this initiative is to me. I was about 15 years old, and that holiday we had been to visit my grandmother (Kaka, as we called her) in our village when my cycle hit. I was wearing my white skirt, and when I stood up, I remember my Kaka putting her wrapper around my waist and whispering that I should follow her. Thankfully, she was discreet, and not many of my extended family in attendance noticed. The wrapper became my new skirt, and we improvised some old clean cloths for a temporary pad till I got to a place where I could buy a proper sanitary pad. My white skirt never recovered but my Kaka saved me from embarrassment that day. Thank you, Kaka Aidah(RIP). I would like to think that this initiative is me extending that wrapper and a proper pad to another girl who might need it. Will you help me be able to extend as many wrappers and pads to as many girls as possible?
