Help Eric Release An Impactful Film

UCLA, Hollywood Diversity Report: (Quote) “The study also found that women and people of color have a harder time raising financing for a film, and when they do, they raise less funding for their films.”

Hello, and welcome to my campaign for HBSU! My name is Eric Deal and I’m a filmmaker who thrives on provoking conversations that elicit action and change. I focus on telling diverse stories with a message, whether it be large or small. During the pandemic, I made my first feature, Historically Black Sellout U? This film is a powerful drama about a high school football star whose national letter of intent is forged and sent to an HBCU. He discovers he has twenty-four hours to find the culprit, reverse the damages, and make the biggest socio-economic decision of his life. This subject matter is dear to my heart being that I was an ex-athlete. It’s a very important film with an impactful message concerning the economic disparity between HBCUs and division one college sports regarding football recruiting.

Similar to the financial struggles of HBCUs, I have endured the hardships of trying to deliver a black independent film to the masses. Access to funding for minority filmmakers like myself is frankly lacking and extremely hard to attain. But, I felt such a passion for making this film that I used my own credit cards to fund this production. Now in debt, the bills keep adding up, film festival entry fees, travel expenses, film premiere theater rental, post-production, marketing, etc. With your help, I can reduce my credit debt, pay back an investor, and have the resources to pay for these line items and show this relevant film in a theater near you.

Being that this is my first feature film, your donations would help me, a minority entrepreneur, get my career moving in the right direction. Also, it would allow diverse audiences to experience this film and come away with positive imagery and messages for the black community. The support of my community would mean so much to me knowing that we came together for a worthy cause. With your help, a black independent film will be supported and will increase awareness and diversity in the entertainment industry, which would increase people of color's representation on tv and at the movie theater.

Thank you so much for your consideration! We are so very grateful for your support!
