Help Erica with Physical Therapy and Healing
Donation protected
Hi my name is Crystal. I am fundraising for my sister, Erica who was brutally attacked by a male and as a result is in a wheelchair.
What happened:
The early morning of October 18, after a long night partying with her friend, Erica was assaulted by her friend’s boyfriend, a guy she has known for her whole life. His problem with Erica, her sexuality. As a result of the assault, Erica suffered a broken nose, several broken ribs, a sacral fracture, and a fractured L5. Most importantly, her pelvis was broken in three different places. Because of the broken pelvis, she cannot walk and will not walk for months (doctors said at least 6 months but Erica is progressing well)
Never in a million years would my family think anything this cruel would happen, let alone having to reach out for assistance. We are thankful for any donation of any size and prayers are always welcomed.
Recommended treatment:
This type of pelvic injury runs a risk of arthritis within the next five years. Proper healing and movement are crucial, especially early. Acute therapy has been recommended. Because of the time and method of the events resulting in these life-changing injuries, and because of the violent nature of the incident, both physical and mental therapy are recommended.
Erica’s orthopedic surgeon estimates full recovery around a year. Because recovery is around a year, she may not qualify for social security benefits. It has been nearly a month since the incident and she has not received any of the much-needed therapy. Monthly bills are also due and her income from employment has ceased.
When/why funds are needed:
Financial assistance is needed immediately. One prescription for blood thinner was $70 at it’s discounted rate! There are other prescriptions, therapy, help with bills, transportation issues, and assistance with basic costs of living needed for as smooth and speedy recovery as possible. Erica is also a large financial contributor to her household so funds would help both her and her family tremendously by supplementing some income.
*None of us have the authority not right to punish someone because we don’t agree with their lifestyle. This has been traumatic; Erica has emotionally challenging days as expected but she is improving by the day. Thank you all for everything.
